1. 8 Bit Retro Drone Show

   Description

   Skymagic, the drone light show company, created two unique shows for Soundstorm 2024 in Riyadh, flying across three nights of the music festival above the Big Beast Stage.

    

    

    
2. Storm Games

   I was commissioned to produce animated visuals to integrate with the first of their 1600 drone light show ‘Storm Games’. 

    

   Designed and animated in an 8 bit style the 7 minute choreographed drone show involved multiple gaming and retro themes, such as, Pacman, Pinball, Space Invaders, Rubik’s Cube and Snake.

    

   Integrated Animation

   The screen visuals needed to integrate closely with the drones hero moments. We had a pinball being launched from the screen transitioning to the LED drones in the sky. 

    

   In another sequence a snake attacked the screen to the beat of the music, resulting in a shattering effect on the glass panel.

    

   A giant Rubik's Cube in the sky was matched with 3D puzzle animations on screen and symbols of Saudi Arabia were blasted out of the sky in the style of Space Invaders.

    

   Grand Finale

   The final scene saw the drones forming a giant King Kong in the sky, then closing the show the gorilla thumped his fists down onto a video cityscape causing the buildings to crumble down.

    

   I delivered over 5 minutes of animation in total, all rendered at 12K.

    

   This was a great project to be involved with, and brilliant to see the full effect come together in the Riyadh skies.
